Here & Now is a site, primarily, for film criticism that focuses (or, at least, tries to focus) on the relevance of film to its immediate surroundings.

Its only editor, contributor, and, for now at least, reader is myself, Stuart Neave. I was trained as a historian in Scotland with little to no focus on film.

Everything has a context. While certain kinds of film – documentary and non-fiction in particular – are more obviously suitable to this approach, Here & Now will publish broadly across new releases and restorations.

The eye-rolling title comes from Walter Benjamin’s idea of the ‘here and now’ of a work of art: its existence in a particular place and time.
